Trucks serve industries whose needs are always changing. Not only do their loads involve different materials, but because of the ecommerce, businesses have access to customers nationally and internationally.

So far we’ve established what the two most popular brands are offering. But what about the other’s? Let’s see what Peterbilt, Mack and Kenworth have.

trucks

Mack

They are known as tough trucks. There isn’t much that Mack trucks aren’t made to do, especially in the severe duty department. If there is one word to describe Mack trucks, it would be “practical”. They are now owned by Volvo.

Mack trucks have good safety features. The Guard Dog feature detects faulty codes and relays them to diagnostics so you can catch problems before they it’s too late. OneCall Roadside Assistance allows you to get help no matter where you are. If you need to stop for routine maintenance and repairs, you can do it at one of Mack’s dealerships anywhere in the US, Canada, or Mexico.

The trucks made by Mack are built to operate with maximum fuel efficiency. The most popular model have around 4.5 average mpg.

Mack MP engines have good torque limit and are clean running. This means that they will last longer and maintain maximum fuel efficiency. These are just a few of the advanced powertrain and operating features.

Peterbilt

Peterbilt trucks can be seen almost everywhere. They are known for groundbreaking safety testing and fuel efficiency.

Peterbilt’s PACCAR MX-13 Powertrain have a stretch fuel economy and work hard to take fuel economy to the next level. This powertrain is matched with Epiq technology to allow the parts of the truck and computerized sensors to communicate different adjustments. Because of it the truck can carry it’s load in the most efficient way imaginable. Peterbilt trucks are very aerodynamically efficient as a general rule, which also lends to their excellent fuel economy. Popular models show average consumption of 5.1 to 9.8 mpg, but it depends on the truck model.

Smartlinq remote diagnostics allow drivers to stay safe on the road by helping them catch problems as they arise, helping them get back on the road quickly and safely. The Driver Performance Assistant (DPA) allows less experienced drivers to improve their skills by providing them with real-time feedback. This tool is displayed on the dashboard of the truck for easy reference while driving. Service and repairs can take place at a number of dealerships across North America.

The truck’s cabs are roomy and comfortable. Peterbilt provides their trucks with driver amenities that are necessary for long routes.

Kenworth

Some would say that Kenworth is more of an owner operator’s truck and it’s the ultimate long haul truck also.

The fuel efficiency here is a little bit costly. Their W900 model has average consumption between 4.3 – 4.5 mpg.

The cabs are roomy and spacious so that the drivers will feel at home while they are on the road. Kenworth’s latest navigational technologies use an interface much like an Android phone, and their navigational system has the capability to use Google applications. Management applications allow drivers to track upkeep, regular maintenance and fuel economy.

Kenworth uses a web-based diagnostics tool to help drivers determine the source of a problem while on the road. Drivers can then take a truck to any dealership in the country, which they can locate using an app, for repairs and maintenance.

Their W900 model is expensive, but it has high price on the used truck market as well.

So we found out that it is really hard to say which one is the best long haul truck. Some would prefer Volvo for their fuel efficiency, and others would prefer other brands for different reasons. It depends on what you are looking for in a truck. Our advice is to consider the insurance price also, before you make a choice for a truck.
