Nov 15, 2018 in Women Truckers, Tips and Tricks

Less than 6% of long-haul drivers are women, and that number is rising due to the truck driver shortage around the country! We think that female truck drivers are fantastic truck drivers and we want to encourage them to continue doing what they like! If you are one of the women who have chosen this rewarding, freeing and important career, we think you can benefit from these great tips that we managed to gather from different women truck drivers.

Choose Parking Wisely

Choose a location that has at least 10 trucks and park under a light if the spot is available. Most women truck drivers avoid the back row because it has a reputation for being less safe. However, if you have a dog that can travel with you, the back row can be a good option so your dog can easily do his business. Traveling with a dog has a lot of benefits and adds a little peace of mind and safety.

Prepare with Some Useful Accessories

Carry extra fuel filters, chains, fuses, paper towels, oil, antifreeze, gloves, a rain coat, and shoes with you. Don’t forget that weather conditions can change rapidly and these accessories can help you get through whatever you encounter. Also check the traffic and weather conditions regularly, so you won’t be surprised.

Educate Yourself

Truck Driving is one of the most hazardous jobs and if you want to drive safe you have to learn. Don’t hesitate to ask other drivers questions. Proving yourself is one thing, but when it comes to safety you better learn everything you can as quick as you can.

Confidence

Remember that driving on the highways for a living is not as scary as you may think. Do not let anyone tell you that you can not succeed in this business. It is totally up to you. Positive attitude will generate positive results. So be confident about what you are doing and you will do just fine.

Maintain Good Health and Hygiene

This is essential not only for women truck drivers, but also for men. Provide yourself with the necessary tools and products for this task. You can read a lot of good articles and learn about healthy lifestyle on the road. Take a few extra minutes to take care of yourself and stay clean and put together. You will probably find that you are happier, healthier and feel better about yourself. But that’s not all of it - all of these things improve your work performance, too.

Truck driving in general is a safe career for women, but like in every career there are pros and cons. If you like the job and constantly improve yourself there is no doubt you will be an excellent truck driver and will enjoy it.
